Portfolio
Each piece of Sarah’s jewellery is individually hand made. The textures are taken from objects such as telephone wire baskets, San Bushman aprons and other African artefacts with two-part silicon rubber and are dipped in molten wax. These wax textures are shaped and carved into beads that are in turn cast in silver. Although the mass production technique of lost wax carving is utilised, the pieces are cast individually, not in multiples. This makes each item of jewellery unique and celebrates the hand made. The basic principles of lost wax casting can be traced back centuries, particularly in Africa.
Sarah’s work is featured on Klimt02 on-line international art jewellery gallery, the Crafts Council Designer Directory and Hidden Art.
